What's your stance on tipping pizza/chinese delivery drivers?

I recently didn't tip a driver for pizza because he took forever, the food was cold, and he was very rude and asked for a tip after all of that, so I simply told him I didn't think it was earned. He replied, "I'm only making 13 bucks an hour, I rely on my tips, shame on you."

I make less than 13 bucks an hour. I did some research, and delivery drivers where I live make 9-14 bucks an hour. There's also a delivery charge for every delivery, that goes towards their gas.

I tip waitresses, hairdressers, etc. anywhere from a mediocre amount (if the service is suitable but not fantastic), to a very generous amount (where they are friendly/personable and service is good/great). But now I don't feel like tipping ANY delivery drivers. Waitresses make 2 or 3 dollars an hour and really do rely on their tips. Someone making 9-14 bucks an hour doesn't rely on tips that much.

I think I'm going to stop tipping delivery drivers, period, unless they really do go above and beyond, for some reason. Think anybody'll tamper with my food? What's your stance on tipping pizza/chinese delivery drivers?
only tip them if they are polite and do a good job, if someone asks for a tip you don't give it to them because a tip is a privelage not a right.

also get a booby trap above your door such as water balloons that can be released from inside the house, that way if he ever shows his face again you can slam the door and get him soaked, also you should get a camera up there so that you can put it on youtube:)
I tip my delivery people very well, and in return my food always arrives quickly, and still hot. I've also noticed them not charging me for an item here and there. Tipping has its perks. Usually its worth it in the long run.

Delivery drivers around here are paid about the same as a waitress. They definitly arent getting $13 and hour and tips. What's your stance on tipping pizza/chinese delivery drivers?

or you could tip them like $1 if there ok

or whatever you want

You were right not to tip him if is took forever AND the food was cold. However, what they make is none of your business. Since when is $13 an hour "really good money"?

NOT tipping is messed up. They prolly wont tamper with your food, but you prolly will always get cold food that will take forever to arrive. What's your stance on tipping pizza/chinese delivery drivers?
i tip the pizza lad for fast service.

where i live near manachester, if the delivery takes over the specified time given by the shop you get it free, or at least at a discount.
i just round the cost of the pizza up .

i cant be bothered fiddling with change.

dont tip them if they dont deserve it.

ps: im a waitress. thanks for tipping us

:)
because I know that delivery drivers get a fee that the place charges, I'll tip between 1-4 dollars.
I think the tampering risk is low however it's messed up not to tip
I use to be a pizza delivery driver, and yea, they make really good money. I wouldn't tip
$2-3 bucks
$10, how would you like to tipped?
Where do you live that delivery drivers are paid $13 an hour? When I was in HS I delivered pizza, I was paid min wage (like $7) plus tips. I was not given anything extra such as the delivery fee the pizza place charged, or money for gas.

I would never ask for a tip from someone like this guy did, he was way out of line. But, the long wait and cold food MAY not have been his fault. It very well could have been, but not necessarily. If there are multiple deliveries in a general direction, the driver will have to stop at multiple places before getting to your house. And if its a busy night or during the dinner rush that could have made the wait longer.

Just because he acted this way I do not think you should stop tipping all delivery people. They are providing you a service (rain or shine..), if you don't want to tip then you should go pick it up.

If I knew I had to deliver to a house that wasn't going to tip vs a house where I always got a good tip where do you think I am going to deliver to first?

I wouldn't spit in your food or anything, I just wouldn't care about it being delivered piping hot. You shouldn't punish all future delivery drivers because of one.
i usually give the delivery drivers a couple bucks but i wouldnt have tipped that dude either. i cant believe he ASKED for a tip. i'm a hairstylist and i have NEVER done that. it is really insulting though if you do a good job and the customer doesnt leave you a little something extra. i would remember these people and cut patches in their hair. HAHAHAHA just kidding! anyway, i dont know if someone would tamper with your food or not. i mean, if you regularly order from somewhere and dont leave tips then they might, or they might just be a$$holes to you.
Not only would I have not tipped that driver, I would have gotten his name and called his boss to let him know just how bad of shape the food was delivered in and just how RUDE the guy was. And then I'd call the corporate office!!

It's called a TIP because they gave extra service than what was required by the institution you ordered from to pay for your order, not because it's required.

Be careful not to get blackballed by not tipping at all because drivers do talk and if they think you're cheap, you will be the last stop on their deliver route, making your food just as bad every time.

But, if you don't like the fact that they make such a starting wage to begin with, my advice is to order in or pick it up yourself.
In our area, drivers are paid a little more than waitresses and the tip is added to the cost of the pizza, but we always tip a bit more. Those kids usually end up using their own cars and adding all those miles to some clunker as well as paying for their own gas. I don't think that the higher wage they make pays enough for gas in this age. It may sound like a no-brainer, but I believe those kids work hard and deserve a bigger tip. Of course, if he's a brat when he comes to the door, he won't get that bigger tip, but I've never had that happen. It's also not always their fault if the food is cold or late. That's when the microwave comes in handy!
My former roommate delivers pizzas and she makes awful money. She is paid minimum wage, gets NOTHING from the delivery charge, that goes to Corporate and she probably averages about $8-9 hour. If you aren't willing to tip the delivery driver, then pick up your order! They are using their gas, their personal vehicle, putting wear and tear on it, to bring YOU your food! So unless the service was awful, you need to tip. And believe me, drivers do remember who you are and whether you tip or not. If you are known as a non-tipper, they will not rush your order to you or try to provide good service. Why should they bother? And by the way, you should check out this website:
