What Do You guys think about Audi?

I am looking for a used car and I ran across a 1999 Audi A4.

I love Audis and this one is immaculate. Very clean inside and out.

BUT, the car has 225K miles on it.

The good thing is that it is a manual, which is what I'm looking for, so I don't have to worry about the transmission going out on it.

But I'm worried about the engine.

If it was a Mercedes or a Honda or a Subaru, I wouldn't be worried about the high miles on the engine, because those cars can get half a million miles on their engines.

But this is an Audi, and I just don't know how good their engines are in terms of high mileage. I know Audis are top quality cars overall, but I'm still sort of worried about the high mileage.

What do you guys think??What Do You guys think about Audi?If the car was well-maintained, you should be able to eke out a few more miles from it. 225K isn't as unusual as it used to be. Ask if the owner has maintenance records. Also, is it a 1.8T 4-cylinder or a 2.8L 6-cylinder? The 1.8Ts had a problem with engine sludge (it was more common in some VW products with the engine than others). I doubt the owner would have gotten to 225K if he or she had sludging problems, but you might look into it. Also see whether the owner used conventional or synthetic oil. VW/Audi recommends synthetic now (usually 5w40), but if the owner used conventional for 225K (and the manual back then said it was OK to use conventional), switching to synthetic now could cause some leakage if deposit buildup from the conventional oil is plugging some slow leaks. See the list of VW-approved oils below. It's the same for Audis. Also see the link below to the site about sludge. What Do You guys think about Audi?
dont get it 225k miles is too much for an exotic car unless ur doing an engine swapWhat Do You guys think about Audi?Audi's are very good. 225k is only 135K miles... not that bad. I lived in Germany for 4 years and some of my friends had Audi's. They are better than BMW but not as good as Mercedes, but superior to Honda's, Subaru's and Toyota's. German cars are built for speed and to last a long time with accumulating high mileage, I had a BMW with over 400Kilos on it and it ran great. What Do You guys think about Audi?
i own a repair shop, and your right to be worried about the engine in this one,if it was anything but an Audi id say it would probably last a little longer, but really that's a lot of miles for anything to have on it, even a Honda for that matter, the one thing about Audi engines they do give a lot of problems once they go past 150 thousand miles, even though you found this car at a deal ,it might be a good idea to pass on it,because its going to need some engine work done real soon on it,and their not a cheap car to repair either, parts are very high for those, and labor ,is more on one of those than a regular vehicle,so it might be a good idea to just pass on this one I'm sure there are some better deals out there on a vehicle for you ,if you knew where there was a low mileage engine for it at,and you could get it cheap enough, you could have the engine changed in it and make it a good car,but the mileage on that one is just too much to deal with, good luck ,i hope this help,s.What Do You guys think about Audi?good cars but expensive to fixWhat Do You guys think about Audi?
Below sea level reliability, extremely expensive and regularly needed repairs... Not much to think about.
