Definitely none from the diverter valve. Maybe one or two from the intake. The stock intake is very efficient and free flowing. The only big difference you'll notice with these is a better sound. If you want power for your audi look at a chip and an exhaust system. Those are the cheaper modifications. It is just another rip-off. Oil has to meet ASTM specs and any oil that meets those specs is the same as any other oil that meets the same specs.

Any part or service for one of the expensive cars is overcharged because they can get away with it.

Wealthy people usually are overcharged for any service they receive (same reason as above).

If you want to save money you can change the oil yourself. Just buy a service manual and follow the instructions.

Sounds like you are not much involved with the driving part so I would base the choice as follows:



1. Choose whether you need a sedan or an SUV. If it is a sedan than go with the A8 since it is the only one you listed

2. If you need an SUV then I would rule out the Range Rover right away. Since Ford took the ownership of the brand (despite the sale to Tata motors) it has done no good to the cars. From the SUV's you listed I like Rover the least on all counts: steering feel and driving experience, looks, build quality. It is by far inferior to Audi and BMW....these cars are much much better



3. Decide between the Q7 and X5. Both are great cars. Q7 owners complained that the interior is fragile to things like coffee spills. A single coffee spill can render half of the devices inoperable if anything drips through the console or the dash compartments. BMW is more of a drivers car and would be my choice - steering is the best out of all cars, road feel is incredibly good. Audy has more subtle handling and does not feel the road quite as good as the BMW. BMW seems to be more reliable and rugged when it comes to things like coffee spills.

I am looking for a used car and I ran across a 1999 Audi A4.



I love Audis and this one is immaculate. Very clean inside and out.



BUT, the car has 225K miles on it.



The good thing is that it is a manual, which is what I'm looking for, so I don't have to worry about the transmission going out on it.



But I'm worried about the engine.



If it was a Mercedes or a Honda or a Subaru, I wouldn't be worried about the high miles on the engine, because those cars can get half a million miles on their engines.



But this is an Audi, and I just don't know how good their engines are in terms of high mileage. I know Audis are top quality cars overall, but I'm still sort of worried about the high mileage.



What do you guys think??What Do You guys think about Audi?If the car was well-maintained, you should be able to eke out a few more miles from it. 225K isn't as unusual as it used to be. Ask if the owner has maintenance records. Also, is it a 1.8T 4-cylinder or a 2.8L 6-cylinder? The 1.8Ts had a problem with engine sludge (it was more common in some VW products with the engine than others). I doubt the owner would have gotten to 225K if he or she had sludging problems, but you might look into it. Also see whether the owner used conventional or synthetic oil. VW/Audi recommends synthetic now (usually 5w40), but if the owner used conventional for 225K (and the manual back then said it was OK to use conventional), switching to synthetic now could cause some leakage if deposit buildup from the conventional oil is plugging some slow leaks. I am the very happy owner of a 2005 Audi A4 1.8T. My car is a FWD CVT.



The only thing that could make the car better would be the convertible. The car its self has been very hassle free. After 27,000 miles there are still no squeaks, or rattles.



I would recommend getting the Quattro (all wheel drive) version if your an avid car driver. When it comes down to engine choice, I have the 1.8T. Now the new model offers a 2.0T direct injection. The 2.0T is a much better engine than the 1.8T. Its more efficient, and more powerful.



I would also recommend either leasing a new car, or only buying that particular 2004 as long as it has a warrantee. Although Audi's are very reliable when taken care of, if you have to pay for maintenance or anything else that could break, is going to cost you a pretty penny.

The name "Audi" alone, brings the desire to own it, especially if all you have to pay for is the insurance, no matter how high. But, it all comes back to the same old question: What can you afford, and which is more worth it to you. I don't know any specifics on the r8, but I do know I wish I owned one of their cars with the TDI in it, since I've owned VW diesels since 1981, with extraordinary performance in longevity, low repair costs, and extremely high gas mileage. BUT, even though Audi is (or was) owned by VW, yours is an Audi, and a 2009, whereas I currently drive a 2002 VW Jetta TDI, and I'm sure the performance will be very different (hopefully even better than my Jetta TDI), and I can't predict repair costs, which have escalated across the motorworld's horizons, so, it all comes back to that question, or those questions I cited earlier: What can you afford, and which one's worth more to you. If it were me, I'd try like hell to keep the Audi, and I'd drive it sensibly, like I do all my cars (which end up lasting f-o-r-e-v-e-r and get extremely good gas mileage[of course I'm talking diesels again, here]). But then, I've always preferred European imports over Japanese ones, even though I owned two earlier makes of Honda Civics (1974 and 1979) which performed excellently, and I bought my daughter a 2006 Honda Accord EX (her choice, not mine). It's just my preference. I bought my son a 2004 VW Jetta TDI, 5-speed, (his choice, not mine) and it gets the usual incredible gas mileage (in the 50mpg's). But, secretly, I hope you find it within your finances to keep the Audi. I'd love to have one, especially one of their TDI's. how to know you have this problem: on the screen behind the steering wheel, you should find S D R N P , which gear you at , if the light is not ON one of the letters, for example, if you put Reverse but the red square light does not go on the R letter on the screen , but instead it starts switching on and off on a random letter (most commonly on D for Drive) .. then this is a symptom that you are facing a problem in the CVT / gearbox and should take it to the garage .



once you fix this problem , it will never occur again .. :) and you can drive safely ..

I am planning on buying a 2006 A3 2.0T, just curious to know what people's experience is with this car. How responsive is the turbo with the automatic transmission? reliability?Audi A3 reviews? How do you like it?Until recently, my wife drove a VW Golf GTi, which is a lovely car and has the same chassis as the Audi. Earlier this year I borrowed my friend's A3 for a week and found it drove very similarly to the Golf although the finish on it was a little more refined. Both cars corner flat and accelerate beautifully although they tended to have a turbo lag in the low rev range but really threw your head back once the turbo kicked in. Don't worry about the auto transmission either, it's fantastic and intuitive (much better than my Mercedes C class), although I do prefer a manual shift. I found I could not beat a Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Evo in a street drag but the Audi and the VW are more refined than the Japanese cars and handle the day to day drive in comfort and style but still have a racing edge to get the heart pumping.



My only concern with the Audi is that servicing and parts are pricey and second hand cars are often driven pretty hard. I suggest you get a mechanic to check any prospective purchase carefully to see if there is any damage before you hand over any hard earned dollars.

Why would you want to do that? Remote starts are nothing but trouble and I don't know anyone who would recommend having one fitted.





If you really want to learn the hard way then my advice is to get it fitted via your local Audi main dealership then at least when the problems start to arise you have some back-up.

no. The 53 (2003) to 08 (2008) does fit with each other. The 2003-2006 was a single grill. Just like the 52/2003 versions were. And you could fit a 2008 bumper on a 53/2003 plate car. However, the new 2009 model you can't. Like someone else posted by a new or used new shape car is the only option you have. Unless you can get a modified version...chances are unlikely though.

Most places are around $100/hr so another $600 in labor. You may be able to find a place cheaper on labor. I would check VW/Audi specialty shops. They typically cost a lot less than dealers. My mechanic charges $80/hr and my dealer charges $120/hr. Good luck with the issue man. I know that my steering racks about to die on my GTI as well. It was an engine swap and everything is completely installed.when i turn the key it makes the noise like the engine is turning but theres no compression.Ive heard 2 diffrent things from a few people that it could be the piston rings or it could be that the timing was put out of place when i took the old motor out and replaced it with the next one.Theres no compression on my 2001 audi a6 could this be piston rings or a timing problem?Depends on the engine, is it a 2.7 or a 2.8. in any case the piston rings on audi are not usually the cause. I would suggest pulling back the timing belt cover and then turning the engine over and see if the camshafts move. I am willing to bet that the belt is broken and your valves are probably bent. I have seen it a ton of times. I work at an audi dealer and that is the first thing I check when I encounter a problem like what you are describing.Theres no compression on my 2001 audi a6 could this be piston rings or a timing problem?Having done a few of these in MR2s I understand your frustrations.



1) Since it's a swap, are you reasonably sure the motor was in good condition? did you buy it from a reputable source or pull it yourself? When I'm looking for a motor to swap, I usually pick the car that looks like the guy rolled it 100 times. You don't want cars that have front end damage or look like they've been on fire. Cars which look good, but are in a junkyard - they aren't there because they look good - they're there because something terrible happened to the engine.

2) Did you make sure the connections to the battery and the ECU are correct?

3) Did you read the shop manual and check the engine timing? A lot of newer cars do NOT have matchmark timing, you have to jumper the ECU to actually time the engine.

4) Did you change the plugs and give the engine a tune up? Did you replace the ignition system or you're sure your ignition system is good?

5) Did you try using dry gas? If the engine has sat around for quite awhile, it may not have decent fuel in the rail yet. You should use high octane gas and some ether to try to spin the engine.

because sometimes due to excessive carbon build-up the joint ruptures or starts leaking and it needs some welding or a new joint to fix that problem.

or maybe the exhaust pipe has some kind of hole in it somewhere close to the engine



if there is not any problem there, check the gasket (if you experience any kind of over-heating)



best way to figure out the problem is to go to a professional because they can actually figure out the actual problem rather than making assumptions like me.

on the starter there is one larger wire, always has power. and a small wire, (used to switch) when you turn the key it gives power to the small wire, if you dont have power there with the key turned to start (takes two people) then its not gonna turn over. check your battery connections. and battery charge. if you are missing that signal on the small wire at the starter, it gets this signal from the ignition switch.

they are a good car they are expensive to maintain but no more so than any other luxury brand so unless you are going pass it up and buy a Honda then i say go for it. reliability issues ore minimal and usually just annoying electric gremlins that you may start to see in the mid !00K mile aria. i lost my clock light and one of the buttons on my climate control went out at about 130K mile or so ( i have a 97 A6 with about 150K miles on it and a 2007 A4 with about 15K on it) they are high maintenance cars (not just a change the oil until it dies car like a Toyota) im not talking about breakdown and repairs i mean scheduled maintenance like timing belt, water pump and tensioner every 65K-70K miles etc. You have to do all the recommended maintenance but that is true of any High end higher performance car. If you are buying the car for its build quality driving dynamics and handling characteristics then you will probably love the car but if you are buying it because its a luxury name and you think it looks cool but you would be just as happy with loaded accord you may find that the maintenance and cost of ownership that these cars (BMW Audi MB Porsche etc.) require will turn you off.Considering purchasing a 2005 audi a4 quattro ? anyone care to try and talk me out of it ?I say get one.

- disconnect the lay shafts off of the central diff,


- remove the front diff housing,


- somehow either reweld in place of the front diff you've disconnected


- remove the central diff housing and weld in some CV joints


- remove and replace the rear diff with some other replacement because there will be extra torque passing to the rear wheels.





Minimum you're looking at 150+ man hours, because essentially you're replacing 75% of the drivetrain.

The Volvo alternatives are a bit more stylish than the Accord but they are not built like they used to be. Electrical gremlins are common as they get older. Safety is first class. Servicing costs are not as high as for an Audi.



The Accord probably the easiest to live with in terms of reliability and depreciation. Servicing costs will probably be in the same league as the Volvo. Comfort in the bigger US Accord (as opposed to the international Accord Euro which is a different car), will be a plus too, and it will ride accourding to American tastes: and still handle sort of okay. The Audi will be firm by US tastes and handle brilliantly. If my 6 year old Audi Cabriolet blows a OBD 0300 for misfire, and smells sorta eggy, whats the worst case ?

This code seems to have a ton of things to answer to. I just spend a ton of money on my timing belt YESTERDAY and didnt get 2 hours before the flashing engine light came on and the idling was shaky. It still drives, and behaves more smoothly at speeds above 25mph, and the timing belt looks good.If my 6 year old Audi Cabriolet blows a OBD 0300 for misfire, and smells sorta eggy, whats the worst case ?My money is on the timing belt job being done wrong.



Random misfire P0300 points to the cams and crankshaft not being lined up right.

Currently Mercedes Benz, sells the most cars in the class, not BMW. He is correct in stating the time frame. Audi is gaining speed quickly, not only in the United States, but in the world. There sales are up over 10% on the year, much more than BMW and Mercedes. Audi board members are very confident that they are still on pace to meet the 2015 goal, and so am I. Audi has been increasing their product line, expecting to have forty models by 2015, more than twice what they offered a few years ago. Audi has been gaining steam for the past several years. They have seen record breaking years every year since they set the goal. Working at an Audi dealership, I can tell you that more and more BMWs and Mercedes Benzs show up on the used car lot, because people are starting to see the light that is Audi. Audi is continuously moving forward, making new models, using new technology, and increasing quality. Audi is shaking things up, where others are just staying the same. Audi is an amazing company, and they will be the number one Premium Brand car in the world.



By the way, comparing Audi to Toyota, GM, or any other car make other than BMW and Mercedes is a joke. Think about it. It is comparing apples to oranges. Toyota will always have larger sales numbers because their cars are cheaper. Last year, audi sold ~997,000 units, compared to BMW's 1.4 million, the most of any german manufacturer. It may seem like a big lead, but keep in mind that counts Mini's and Roll Royces, which BMW owns. In addition, in the early 90's, BMW's routine sold 5x more than Audis. Audi only owns Lambourghini, which is nice, but doesnt sell as well as Mini. The reason why toyotas sell so well is their towering reliability compared to cars built by GM. I dont think that its Audi's intention to become #1 in the planet, since their cars are very expensive. I believe they only want to be #1 in germany. I dont think that Audi will ever surpass Toyota and GM in the global market. especially if u have to drive in snow.....the quattro is awesome



their supercar the R8 is comparable to a lambo



and their ultimate sports car the rs4 is perfect engineering

Audi can't outsell Toyota or GM ... they don't sell trucks ... pick up trucks and mini vans.



So ... my point is that Audi doesn't have a full product line to compete with larger automakers.



They can compete with other German automakers for #1 in Germany. With their position in China, they are poised to take over from BMW. Audi's are seen as more "everyday" cars there than the upscale BMW's. I've seen them used as taxi's in Beijing and Shanghai so they will sell lots in China.



But without a full range of trucks, SUVs and min-van's in the (VW/Audi) line up ... there's no way they can compete with GM or Toyota for units sold.

In five years they will pass Nissan, and probably become the second biggest auto manufacturer under Toyota, but Toyota is going after the number one spot, having passed General Motors in sales of units. Audi is a great vehicle, but it can't hold a candle to Toyota.

Maybe in Europe, but in America. Never. Ford, GM, and Nissan pretty much dominate the field right now and in my humble opinion, GM makes the best cars. Especially the new C6 Z06 Vette.

your nephew is very lucky. i can't think of a small luxury that is anymore reliable than the A4 but 350k is impressive on any car! the only problem is that if audis do have any issues, then they're very expensive to repair especially if the warrenty is expired. s line up of audi is akin to the AMG or M division of the benz or the bmw. its their sports division. the s cars will be more expensive cause they are preformance and driving tuned. they would be more like the top of the line Audi A4 on streoids.

S-line in Audis was introduced a few years ago as a kind of sportier version of each car in its range. Having an S-line does not guarantee extra performance though. Most of the additions are cosmetic and come as part of a package. You can get stock A4s that could be referred to as s-line because the wheels, interior trim etc could be from the S-line catalogue.

For example you could be looking at, lets for arguments sake say an A4 1.8T S-line. This would have the same power as a non S-line 1.8T but would probably look much sportier with more aggressive paint, side skirts and more pronounced spoilers. The same would probably go for the wheels but all of this depends on the preferences of the original owner.



Don't confuse S-liune with S3, S4 or S6. These are the balls out high power versions of the A3, A4 and A6 respectively. Almost completely different cars.I am looking into getting a 2006 Audi A4. the outside has a loswer, more agressive stance, lowered about another 1.5in both front and rear. with upgraded front and read bumpers.

also its up graded tuned suspension for more of a sport tuned handling in a four door sedan, also with larger brakes, for quicker and quiter stopping. once you go under the hood you will notice, the engine has been upgraded to a 3.2l v8 twin turbo, boosting you some where in 10 psi from the turbos, adding about 150 more horsepower then the basic a4.the car will take you from 0-60 in under just 5 sec, about 3 sec faster then the a4.

the car is both good to take out to the race track, or to take you to work and back, with a little extra horse to give you the kick that you may need, also good in mountains and performs real awsome.

with three diffrent transmission set up all in one, u either have a fully auto set up. the more sporty tiptronic, or the racing inspired paddle shifting.

The S-Line package has a sportier suspension, a sportier body kit, larger sportier wheels, and a sportier looking interior. S-Line is a sport/aero package for the A3/A4/A6



The S4, RS 4, S5, RS 6 etc. are completely different vehicles in a completely different price range.



Basically it is an aesthetic styling package offered. However all '08 cars come standard with the same S-Line package which was north of a $2k option in years past. There is also the S-Line Titanium package which comes with black option window trim (rubber), black optic grille, piano black belt line trim in cockpit, and titanium color multi-spoke wheels.
The S line is the Sport version.

The Audi A4 comes with 4 and 6 cylinder engines.

It has-4 cylinder-200HP, 6 cylinder-250HP

0-60 in around 7 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.



The Audi S4 comes with a 345HP V8 engine and some more expensive materials.

0-60 in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. It costs around $45,000



The 2006 Audi S4 competes with BMW 335i and AMG Mercedes.



The Audi RS4 is the even faster version. It has a V8 with 420HP. 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and top speed is 186mph. It comes with more technology and better materials and a nicer bodykit.

Many of the people who responded here are incorrect. They are thinking about the S4. The S-Line is in between the S4 and the A4. It has some badges, perhaps the rims, and some slight suspension tweaks, but it's mostly just an A4. The S4(and RS4) are the performance lines of the A4 group. Those have more powerful engines and are more expensive.
