I'm thinking about purchasing a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro from a private seller on Craigslist. The seller states that the car is in good shape but needs a new transmission. I don't anything about cars. Unless you are good a mechanic, I would NOT buy that car. Because the tranny is shot, you probably would NOT be able to test the car (like the engine, etc.). Which means that you might find NEW problems after you fix the tranny.
