11 week old pit seemed disturbed....?

By now most of you on this board know about my little pit puppy that ive had for the last 7 weeks. I might be a little obsessed with taking the best care of him lol. Anyways, he is very happy whenever our friends come over. He loves visitors and as much as he loves me, he will abandon my lap in a SECOND to see who is coming through the door and he always greets them wagging his tail and getting excited. Except for last night. My fiance and i ordered chinese food and when the guy got there he had to come inside because his credit card machine wasnt working and he needed to use the phone. As soon as he stepped through the door my dogs mood changed instantly. He all of a sudden seemed very disturbed (hard to describe it but i know him very well) and he stood upright and stiff and gave one bark and just stood there the same. I called him and he didnt come so i went and picked him up and carried him away and he seemed fine. He was licking my face and being happy. But why did he do this? isnt it to young to be doing this? and if not why get upset over the delivery person when there are plenty of people he has just met and warms right up to?11 week old pit seemed disturbed....?
So, this dog was 4 weeks old when he came home?

This was the dog that was crying while he "took a crap" after eating 'fake wood', right? Did he ever get to the vet?

By 'Pit', I'll assume you mean APBT.

Problem #1 is that he was 4-8 weeks too young to be taken from mom. If mom died or this was a similar rescue situation, then he really needed to end up in a home with loads of APBT experience and experience in raising orhpaned puppies.

Problem #2 is that he came from horrible bloodlines and did not get a good start in life. Poorly bred APBT's can have major aggression issues - this is why an experienced home is needed.

But, I have to say that being wary of a stranger isn't exactly something that warrants freaking out. If you feel that it would have escalated to aggression, then you need to call a behaviourist/trainer to get these issues worked out NOW. Not in a month. Not in 6 months. NOW.

On a separate note, you never should have allowed this person inside. You should have had him wait outside while you got either a cordless or cell phone and had him use it outside. This is just for your personal safety - even if your FI was there. This was a super dangerous thing to do and perhaps your pup actually prevented a problem just by being suspicious and scary looking.
Eat Him!

I bet he's delicious.11 week old pit seemed disturbed....?
That was a stranger he didn't know and you don't know what his temperment was. Dogs sense moods from people and react to it. All I can say is he was doing his job. GOOD BOY!!!!!!
Maybe when your friends/fam come over he can "sense" that you know them and that it is OK for them to come in. With this delivery guy, maybe you or your honey were giving off some energy about him coming in and having to use your phone and the dog picked up on it...hes a stranger and he was coming onto his grounds.11 week old pit seemed disturbed....?
If you haven't already, try to get him to go to some training classes, he is at the age where is he learning how to act around others.
Seems normal, most dogs bark when there is visitors. This is the time when you start his training.
go to the vet
was this a playful bark or more aggressive? This makes a huge difference in what needs to be done, if it was just playful that is fine but if it was aggressive you need to nip that behavior in the but right now before it is to bad to correct. This could lead to having an aggressive dangerous dog. Contact a behaviorist and get some help.
He's reacting to the delivery guys emotions or vibe. Maybe this was not a very nice guy and the dog sensed that. Good dog!!! I agree with others, he's doing his job and the delivery guy will definitely remember not to mess with your home. Double good dog, give that dog a marrow bone ;)
He's just being a pit. It's in his instinct.
