Is this a good business idea?

In my city there are few businesses that deliver food, besides pizza. What if I offered a delivery service for different restaurants in the area. Like if someone wanted chinese food, mexican, or even something from McDonalds, I would get it and deliver it for a fee. Would this work?Is this a good business idea?
YNPE,

No - you have to consider the cost of fuel, time (salary), depreciation on your auto(s), and likely other items that all cost $$$. Unless of course you have so much start up $$$ that you can afford for at least a while the "free delivery" for pure marketing purposes.

As an employee in a major metropolitan area - I can tell you that the basic idea completely appeals to me as a consumer. If I could get someone to deliver different types of lunches to me at my office and have it be the "same" company that provides that service - then I suspect my lunches would be a lot better. Keep rolling with the idea though - don't quit, there is usually an evolution cycle that goes with this until you get to "the point" of where you are trying to reach.

Best of luck!
Not if its a one or two man show. The people most likely to use it would be office workers and the busiest time would be maybe two hours a day. How many can you deliver in just 2-3 hours? I don't think it'd be worth it, hun.Is this a good business idea?
I think this is a great idea. Here's why:

-low overhead

-possible kickbacks (percentage) from restaurants

-tips

Many people will frown on this but my advice would be to move forward with it, ASAP. You will truly know if it works if you try it.

Here are the challenges you'll face:

1. Too much 'thinking about it'. Business plans are useless. I've done lots of them and they are stuck in one of my drawers. Bankers, lawyers and accountants like business plans.

2. Promoting your service. How will you get the word out (on a regular basis) you offer this service?

I'd say 'good luck' but luck has nothing to do with it. With persistance, you'll succeed. Keep trying. Work hard.
i saw a business just like that they delivered everything from a store or whatever though and they did not seem to succeed as they only seemed to be in there about a year. I dont think you would get many tips as people are paying for your service already and it cant be too much to deliver something or else no one will use it. The only way i think it could possibly work is if you went and got contracts signed with other store owners and restaurants that allowed you to advertise your service at their place of business and have them promote your business when people call and order. The point is it would be very difficult to handle as a single person and you would have to have essentially a delivery person for each individual business. I hope this helps you as small business is tough. Is this a good business idea?
I think its a GREAT idea! My husband and I have talked several times about wishing that someone would start a delivery company like that! In our town, the only restaurant that delivers is Pizza. We like pizza, but it can get tiring if you have it too often. Since we both work from home, we arent out and about much, and delivery is what we need. It would be so wonderful if we could order something other than pizza! LOL

I think this is a very good idea i would use it but im not sure how much success you would have it!!!
For the first time when I saw an associate program i said this is my chance.Medicines.co.nr pays more than any affiliate program, it offers pay per click programm 0.25 cents per click, which is more than google.i made 500$ in one week last month.i simply signed up from medicines.co.nr and now im getting 3000$ per month from this site.if you have a website or even free website put (medicines.co.nr + bidvertiser) banner on your site and ask others to click on it.all you need is a traffic. It is new in USA and people don鈥檛 know much about it, that鈥檚 why it is offering 0.25 cents(Which is high).get the money before its too late.
In my county in N. California there has been such a service for at least fifteen years and it's still in business. It's called Takeout Taxi. They contract with certain restaurants--maybe 20 or so. I used to get in the mail their little booklets, which would consist of menu items from each of their restaurants. The customer would phone in an order, I'm not sure to whom, the restaurant or TT, and have it delivered. I never used the service. The area I come from, Santa Cruz, has loads of restaurants owing in part to an active tourist trade, so the business is competitive and probably many restaurants appreciate an extra selling gimmick. I've seen the TT vehicles around town--much as you probably see the Domino's delivery dudes in your area.

So yes, the kernal of your idea is probably viable although your own business skills and the demand for such a service in your area will be paramount.

I think printing up these menu booklets and mailing them out is a valuable tool to introduce your service to the community, although obvious this is going to entail some upfront money on your part.
I think it's a good idea because there's a company started in Florida by the name of "Dine-11." What you need to do is come up with a business plan. It may not be cost effective for you given the fact that gas prices are still on the rise. Also what you may want to consider is your own safety. If you are thinking about starting a business, there are tons of home-based businesses out there that could reward you with a lot more money than delivery service. You may want to set up your boundaries, intentions, what you want to make, if it's possible to accomplish your goals with the company and of course whether you could do it forever, or if it's really an idea based on the fact that you want to generate an income. All of these questions will let you know if it's worth your time and money. I have a successful home based business and I love what I do. Try weighing your options and potential for income. You may also want to seek business advise from a professional firm, or call up other companies that do the same thing far away and find out the money aspects and time aspects of things. Good luck with this one.

You will achieve what it is you put your mind to.

There is a place in CA that does this.......and they have done VERY well! On the Run I think they are called. I think it is basically WHO you cater to.........their main focus was on Business workers, people in offices, etc. They made menus and passed a bunch out to companies in their area, and the calls started coming in! Many companies used them for corporate meeting lunches! So much easier for someone to bring lunch in and have a variety.........:) Hope this helps!
This is a great Idea.

You might want to make it a catered affair.

Don't just deliver -serve it and clean up

It also involves putting a price on it.

Charge $50 and hour plus food .

With gas at the price it is today less is more.

Have weekly specials / different cuisines

Good luck whatever you decide!
Yeah I heard of it. I dont know how much money you would make but you would make tips off of it. Also most likely need to do it for high class restuarants.
