Do a lot of southern people wish minorities would leave "their country?"?

I get the sense that a lot of southern people really despise minorities and think the only way you are American is if you're White, Christian, and straight. I am from TN, and racism is very much alive...people may be friendly on the outside, but I hear racist remarks all the time when certain people aren't looking. When you go to restaurants, anytime minority families walk in, everyone stares and whispers. I even went to Christian youth concerts and revivals where the people I met (one time even the youth minister) made racist jokes about Asians and Chinese food delivery men. What is up with so many Southerners having such hatred for anyone that's not white?Do a lot of southern people wish minorities would leave "their country?"?

Because although horrible times in our country's history are long gone (relative to time) the effects of them are very much existant. That is why it is silly when people say "slavery was over a long time ago", yes it is over but there are people with the same mentality that people in that time had. A lot has happened in the past in the south and until more people are willing to be open and understand other people, the racism that you mention will continue, just in a subtle way.Do a lot of southern people wish minorities would leave "their country?"?
I'm from TN originally, and what you're saying never happened where I lived. Maybe it's just you--or maybe this is completely fake. I'm guessing it's the latter.



My family has been in the South for 10,000 years(yes, I'm Eastern Cherokee and that is as Southern as it gets,) and many Southeastern people have quite a lot of Native ancestry. Sounds to me like you just want to stereotype us. That right there is just as insulting as the racism you think is still alive.





I frankly am sick and tired of people thinking all of us who are from the South are stupid and racist. That is also a prejudice, and it needs to stop.

I live in the south (arkansas) and yes I agree with what you're saying. I notice deep in the south , like the small towns that's where you get most of the racists.
No need to address anyone as minorities, it's really an out-dated term, supposedly, used to "measure" a group of people within a population, when the term is a subliminal word that represents persistent and consistent reminders of so-called inferiority within a population. Thanks~
Perhaps it's their level of education. The south is not known for having the smartest people. They are not enlightened enough to understand that their behavior is stupid.

As a 48 yr old white male who was born in New Orleans...have lived all over the world...curently living in Houston...I understand where your comming from...but it is not a "southern thing" it is more a "christian" thing...in todays world it has become "if you dont believe as I do then you are wrong" and deserving of my disdain and hatred.
Well I am southern, christian and white and I don't feel that way. Get this I am from Mississippi..Racist are everywhere and so are hypocrites...

KKK was a fundamentalist christian cult which was started in Tennessee and there's statues and parks named in the founder's honor.



The South has a history of being a violent totalitarian state to anyone not WASP. This is the "southern heritage" they want to be promoted today.



Not everyone is a born again racist asshole that but there's so many of them around here that are. The South needs more education and it needs to be more industrialized.
The south is the birth place of slavery. Older generations are just passing their ignorance on to the younger ones.
I live in Lousiana, and I agree there is a ton of racism over here. I think it has mostly to do with the fact that there are a lot of blacks over here. And racism is a worldwide problem, not just limited to the south. Dont steriotype.
NO!!! racism is a world wide problem. I live in Mississippi on the coast, I really don't think it's a southern thing. I was up in Pennsylvania and meet a lot of openly bigoted people. Maybe TN has alot of racism, namely Irwin TN. I heard they run black folks out of town. I am a white woman, who would befriend anyone, of any color, for who they are and not the color of their skin.
