After seeing al these tipping questions, i have one of my own.?

How much should I tip a Chinese Restaurant that has a couple of very good dishes that i always order. It is for delivery. The food is good. But the people who run the store are jerks. Whenever I call them, they tell me to wait on the line or to call back later if i can't decide. And when i ask for a dish, they say tell them the number on the menu. I never even got a menu, i know what they serve because i ordered it before when i was dining-in. So what should i tip the delivery guy, he is also a jerk. It is a small store so there are only 5-6 people who work in it.After seeing al these tipping questions, i have one of my own.?
What I think people have to remember is that the kitchen staff (in the case of the Chinese restaurant anyway) are the ones taking your order. The delivery person should not pay the price (so to speak) for their co-workers' rudeness. If the delivery person is kind, clean and congenial tip them accordingly. I think they make around $5.00, so 10% is acceptable. And remember, when ordering take out at your favorite diner, the waitress probably not only takes your order, but makes sure everything you need is in your box/bag (ie:condiments, cutlery, napkins, etc.) They are spending some of their busy time to make sure your meal is just as well served as if you were sitting down and they make $3-3.50 an hour. Plus they get taxed on their sales. While 20% may be too much for take out in this situation, if they are kind, clean, congenial and make sure you have everything you need, tip them according to their attentiveness to your needs. But please do not kill the messenger! Sometimes the service people take the punishment for the kitchens' mistakes.
i would give them a nice long stare and then fartAfter seeing al these tipping questions, i have one of my own.?
First, get a menu. Ask them for a take out menu the next time you order. Then, the only person who really deserves a tip anyway would be the delivery guy, even if he's a jerk. Here's why.. you want your food to arrive intact next time.
tip VERY little if they act like jerks. if u dont tip at all, and u eat at the food a lot, its extremely rude. how much do you tip ordinarily? if its low, then maybe its the cause of the jerky service. tip sort of high, like 25%-30% and see if they change their ways. if they dont, continue to tip but keep it EXTREMELY LOW. if they act nicer, then they are just greedy, and i guess if u really like the place, you'll keep eating there...tipping high or low...? lol. ok, well this is racist, but many people who work at true chinese restaurants are very rude when it comes to service unless you're chinese yourself. sorry if i offended anyone, but its true....After seeing al these tipping questions, i have one of my own.?
I usually tip a couple bucks to my local delivery places. I know sometimes the people you order from can be jerks, but remember if you are calling during a time when they are busy, they may be rushing you to get to other orders. If you don't have a menu, I would suggest you ask them to send one when you order. That way you can keep it and then have the numbers the next time you order. I always tip because I make it a rule to be nice to people who have access to my food out of my sight. Not saying that they WILL do something to your food, but they COULD.
i used to be a waiter and i always tip because i have been there and done that. but if i received that kind of service i wouldn't give them one penny of a tip. if you really want to send them a message then find a new Chinese restaurant.
I don't tip for bad service or jerky comments. If the food is good, just pay for the food.
I usually tip any delivery guy if they haven't charged for delivery for my food. I go through the same thing sometimes with my favorite pizza place. It's a small place, we order about once a week and they have the same "pleasant" attitude every time. The delivery people are great though so I usually tip from $3-7 dollars depending on the price of our food. I figure, they save me gas money and it's cheaper than paying 15-20% at the resturant itself. Hope this helps!
I wouldn't if he is a jerk maybe just a dollar or something like that. If the delivery guy is nice and the order is still hot i try to tip good if the guy is a jerk i might giver fifty cents or a dollar
O.K. First of all, if you don't know what you want when you call, then wait until you have decided before you call to place an order! Guess what genius, you're not the only one placing an order! These guys probably have at least ten other people on the line that know what they want trying to place their order while you're wasting time trying to figure out what you want. Of course these guys get tired of having the same idiot time after time calling up undecided and wasting their time, especially if you order there frequently. Honestly, that is rude in case you did not know, but hopefully you do now! Secondly, if you know they are going to ask for the number of the meal, as they do in 99.9% off Asian take out restaurants do, and you said you have dined inside before, PICK UP A FREAKIN MENU THE NEXT TIME YOUR IN THERE!!!!!!! They are being jerks to you because by now YOU SHOULD KNOW THE PROCEDURE of ordering in their restaurant by now!!!!! By the way, the menus are usually kept buy the cash register or you could simply ASK for one. Quit being an idiot and they will stop being jerks to you.
Does anybody remember that tips are for service? Your bill is for the food. If you get crappy service don't tip. If you get good service give a good tip. I always wonder why some people believe that a tip is mandatory. I feel that giving a rude waiter / waitress a tip sends doesn't help them be a better server. As far as percent I'd like to know when it became harder to do your job just because the meal cost more. If I order a $15 salad does the staff work harder than the guy cooking and serving me a $8 burger?
I don't believe in etiquette or being P.C. - so I will say that you don't have to tip them anything.

There is not a law saying that you must tip.

You can choose not to. However, they may choose to spit in your food next time your order. Not tipping would give them the clear message that you don't like their service.
What you tip the delivery guy is for the delivery guy's service, not the restaurant's. You're not tipping the phone answerer. You're not tipping the chef. As long as the phone answerer gets your order right and the chef cooks it right, it's probably worth putting up with their attitude for a 60-second phone call. If it isn't, take your business elsewhere - simple as that.

As for the delivery guy who "is also a jerk", what is he doing that makes him a jerk? Does he insult you or something? If you are paying cash, your transcation with him should take maybe 15 seconds. Pay him, take your food and close the door. Give him his couple of bucks tip and move on with your life.
I always tip heavily on delivered food. Not only did I not have to go to the store, prepare the food, cook the food and do the dishes...but I also saved on the humdrum hassle of getting 'dressed' (you know: shoes, bra, lipgloss), driving, parking, waiting for a table, etc. The service I'm paying for is to have hot, tasty food in disposable containers brought to my door. They don't have to be nice about it - their job sucks and I'm cool with that. I will say, though, that they usually get friendlier once they know that I tip well :-)
If you could, order and eat there... then ask to see one of the cooks and hand the cook a tip.

I worked at Chilis for a few years back in high school. A customer had crappy service from one of the waiters that day. I just happened to cook his steak that evening. He asked the waiter to take him back so he could tip me. He handed me a 10. Part of it was to tick off the waiter, but was a nice gesture to the cook...
Find another place to eat. The only way they will change is if they start losing business. Dont reward people for being *******.

Plus if you just dont tip, they will start spitting in your food.
You've got a lot of different things, some of which are not their being rude, but their trying to run their business.

When they ask you to wait on the phone, it's not to be rude, but because they were in the middle of helping someone else, who deserves to be served before you.

If you don't yet know what you want, it's legitimate for them to wait on other people while you figure it out -- why should all their other customers wait for you?

20% is a good tip, so tipping less, say 15% (the minimum) would express your displeasure.

Of course, tipping well is a way to get better service in the future.

Next time you're there, or nearby, get a menu; or the next time you call, ask them to bring a menu when they deliver the food.

Habitually insulting other participants may get you banned, not only from YA, but from all Yahoo services.
never tip bad service, or what my parents sometimes do at like cracker barrel ruby tues. etc., they will leave like a dime or a quater so the waiter doesnt think they just forgot
There is a store like that down the street. They don't do delivery, but the store fits your description almost exactly. I always order the same thing. They are rude, in my opinion, because they are busy and have to get alot done. Every time I order from there, regardless of rudeness, I say thank you, smile a little, and give them a roughly calculated 10% tip. They make the good food, and they give me the food. They deserve the extra money. Lately, sometimes, I notice them smiling back, and I don't think it involves the extra money.

About what JJ said -- That seems like a really good idea, if you don't want to tip the service people. Although, I wouldn't do it intentionally to anger an employee.
